12th Annual 8K for H2O

February 8, 2014 at 9am, Folly Beach, SC

WMI Shem Creek Fisheries
The 2014 8K for H2O Successfully Raise $4,200 for Water Missions International! Thank you to all our sponsors, donors and volunteers for your hard work and support!

This race year was unique in that all proceeds will go to provide clean water to victims of Typhoon Haiayn in the Philippines through our beneficiary: Water Missions International!
Water Missions International is a local non-profit organization that provides safe water and sanitation in a sustainable manner to people in developing countries and disaster areas. Their team, already established in the Philippines, is working tirelessly to return clean drinking water to many Filipino communities.
This is especially important to MESSA and the College of Charleston community due to our Peace Corps Masters International students serving in the Philippines.

Mission and History

In 2003 the Masters of Environmental Studies Student Association (MESSA) was searching for a way to make a more tangible contribution to the Charleston Community. After much discussion, the issue of water quality was highlighted as one of key concern here in the Lowcountry. As a race on Folly Beach would bring people within visual distance of the issue, the 8k was developed to provide a fun and interactive method to raise funds for a local organization working toward this same goal.
